Mexican Foreign Policy towards the Caribbean
H.E. Alfonso Múnera, Secretary General of the Association of Caribbean Sates (ACS) attended the “Mexican Foreign Policy towards the Caribbean” Forum which was convened by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, Mexico City. Seated at the head table during the Forum’s Opening Panel “Working Together towards Regional Development: Mexican Cooperation with Caribbean Regional Organizations” are (from left to right): Mrs. Rosaura Castañeda Ramírez, Head of the Unit for International Negotiations, Ministry of Economy of Mexico; Mr. Didacus Jules, General Director of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS); H.E Alfonso Múnera, Secretary General of the ACS; Mr. Eduardo Sojo Garza-Aldape, President of National Institute of Statistics and Geography of Mexico (INEGI); H.E. Claudia Ruiz Massieu, Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Mexico; Mr. Mikel Arriola, Federal Commissioner for the Protection Against Sanitary Risks of Mexico; Mr. Víctor Villalobos, Inter-American Institute for Cooperation in Agriculture Director General and Mr. Colin Granderson, Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Assistant Secretary General.
Among the principal activities of the Forum was the handing over of satellite images from INEGI to the ACS as part of the implementation of the Caribbean Platform of Territorial Information for Disaster Prevention (PITCA) project which is being financed by the Government of Mexico. The PITCA initiative intends to establish a platform which will provide territorial geospatial information, from national as well as regional sources with the aim of reducing vulnerability in the Greater Caribbean region.
